Becoming a Parent Changed How I Think About Student Development

  My Personal Connection to Student Development Before I found out I was going to have a daughter, I had never really thought deeply about children’s development or done much research about it. After she was born, that changed completely. My daughter is now 14 months old, and watching her grow has made me pay much more attention to how children develop physically, mentally, socially, and emotionally. As a new parent, I started noticing things I had never really thought about before, such as fine motor skills and gross motor skills . I began watching how she learned to hold objects, pick up small items, crawl, stand, move around, and gradually become more independent. These small changes made me realize that development is happening all the time and that every stage brings new abilities and new challenges.
